Who is defying the norm and breaking the mold on how to best improve the lives of the paralyzed?
A new facility named NeuroXcel located in N. Palm Beach, FL, are revolutionizing the field of independence and recovery for the paralyzed. The results are nothing short of amazing as they bring function and mobility back to muscles said to never be able to be used again.
One of its clients, Kevin M. was hit by a wave at 24 years old and became quadriplegic. He was given only 3 years to live under the current health care system and using current methods. He’s now 30 years old and with the help of the team at NeuroXcel, they are defying the system in more ways than one.
On a recent visit to the facility I learned in the last few years NeuroXcel management has researched the globe for the best advancements in equipment, met with some of the best doctors and learned almost every aspect of spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders. “NeuroXcel is dedicated to helping disabled individuals have the opportunity to recover peak independence and functionality so that they may live as normal a life again as possible”, said Tom. “So far the results have been amazing and we’ve learned to do it by using our comprehensive program.”
Through their research, the NeuroXcel team has found the best training practices available and pulled all their knowledge and resources together to build a comprehensive activity-based strength training program (known as the C.A.S.T program) which is now done in a state-of-the-art training facility. Yes, I said “training”.
Amongst a large line up of some of the best mobility delivery systems in the world, NeuroXcel is designed to help their clients achieve maximum independence and functionality using various forms of cutting-edge equipment. Some of the equipment includes weight-bearing systems, gait training, vibration technology, upper body ergometer and some other unique devices. The core philosophy behind NeuroXcel’s C.A.S.T program is that everything involves movement and activity-based training. With this philosophy in mind, came their newest addition, the Vortex PRO-TRAINER. It filled a final training void, a 3-D approach to delivering resistance training fast and easily to the human body. Because of its unique design allowing its special brand of 360-degree movement, they are already seeing great results from the Vortex PRO-TRAINER in only 3 weeks. I watched as Kevin and Evan, Director of the facility, perform chest flies, immediately followed by core rotations, then pulls and triceps work from multiple angles, all within minutes. “We can get more work done from any angle in the shortest amount of time. There is almost no adjusting needed for the unit, and no time wasted on setting up for new movements and exercises. All the handles are right where you need them and I can stand right there with Kevin inside the unit to assist him through the real-world movement patterns he needs to develop strength for his specific needs and to get those muscles firing again. It took only 3 weeks for Kevin to go from a highly unstable movement pattern of chest flies to ones with almost complete control,” said Evan. The NeuroXcel team liked that it also took up a very small amount of space and it all can be done on one unit.
